Over a dozen passengers were injured as they evacuated a plane after being alerted of a “false fire warning.”
A Ryanair flight was due to take off from Palma Airport in Spain to Manchester, England, on Friday, July 4, when the inaccurate message was announced onboard, prompting an evacuation, the airline said in a statement to PEOPLE.
“This flight from Palma to Manchester discontinued take-off due to a false fire warning light indication. Passengers were disembarked using the inflatable slides and returned to the terminal,” a spokesperson for the airline said.
“While disembarking, a small number of passengers encountered very minor injuries (ankle sprains, etc.) and crew requested immediate medical assistance,” the Ryanair spokesperson continued.

A spokesman for Majorca’s emergency response crews told The Sun and the Daily Mail that 18 people needed medical treatment for their injuries, including six who were sent to local hospitals.
The injuries were “all minor,” the spokesperson added, per the outlets.
Video footage shared on social media from the incident showed passengers exiting the plane from what appeared to be the emergency exit doors.
Ryanair confirmed to PEOPLE that there was no fire on the aircraft, and passengers were “quickly arranged a replacement aircraft,” which departed Palma at 7:05 a.m. local time on Saturday, July 5.
