IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed an agreement to launch a new Crowne Plaza hotel in Ikeja, Lagos, scheduled to open in early 2028.
The development will mark a significant step in IHG’s expansion strategy in West Africa, strengthening its footprint in Nigeria’s bustling commercial capital.
The 119-room hotel will operate under a franchise agreement with Watercress Hotel International Limited and be managed by Valor Hospitality Partners.
The new hotel will be situated in Ikeja, Lagos’ main administrative and commercial district.
This area is a key hub that houses major corporate offices, government institutions, and the city’s international airport, Murtala Muhammed International Airport. Crowne Plaza Lagos Ikeja will provide convenient access to important landmarks such as the Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja City Mall, and cultural sites like the Nike Art Gallery.
Its central position also offers easy connections to popular coastal leisure destinations, including Tarkwa Bay Beach and Elegushi Beach, making the hotel attractive to both business and leisure visitors.
Crowne Plaza Lagos Ikeja will feature signature amenities aimed at balancing work and relaxation. The hotel will introduce the next-generation Plaza Workspace, which offers flexible, design-led areas for meetings and informal collaboration.
Guests will also benefit from WorkLife Rooms that combine comfort and practicality, enabling seamless transitions between professional and personal time.
These offerings reflect the brand’s focus on supporting international travellers who seek productivity alongside comfort.
IHG’s Managing Director for India, Middle East & Africa, Haitham Mattar, highlighted Lagos as a vital commercial and cultural centre with significant growth potential.
The new hotel aligns with IHG’s long-term development goals across Africa. Watercress Hotel International Limited expressed confidence in the partnership, aiming to set a new standard for hospitality in Nigeria by introducing an internationally recognised brand.
This move also reinforces Lagos’ position as a key player in Africa’s expanding hotel and tourism market.
With over 400 Crowne Plaza hotels worldwide, the Lagos project will join a global network known for contemporary design and guest-focused services.
The deal was supported by hospitality consultancy firm HeroPlus Hospitality Consulting, which advised on brand selection and market feasibility to ensure the project’s alignment with regional demands.
