German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius arrived in Kiev on Thursday, saying he wants to speak with Ukrainian leaders about the situation in the country and discuss additional military aid.
“We are doing everything we can to support Ukraine so that it can defend itself and get into a position where Russia is ready for serious negotiations,” Pistorius said before his trip.
Despite international peace efforts, Russia has recently intensified its drone and missile attacks on Ukraine.
Earlier this week, Ukraine reported the largest Russian drone attack since the war began more than three years ago, involving 479 Shahed drones and several cruise and hypersonic missiles.
