Xiaomi EV unveils YU7 SUV

Xiaomi EV has launched its first all-electric SUV, the Xiaomi YU7, expanding the company’s automotive portfolio following the debut of its SU7 sedan.

The YU7 marks Xiaomi’s entry into the SUV segment with a fully redesigned model emphasising performance, space, and intelligent features. It is poised to take on Tesla as a competitor to the Model Y.

The YU7 shares the design language of the SU7 but adopts a unique SUV profile. It is positioned as a mid-to-large luxury SUV.

It measures 4,999mm in length, 1,996mm in width, and 1,600mm in height, with a 3,000mm wheelbase.

The YU7 is available in three variants: Standard, Pro, and Max.

The vehicle features a large clamshell aluminium hood — the largest among mass-produced models — and a front trunk offering 141 litres of storage with up to eight opening modes.

Design highlights include a hollowed-out “waterdrop headlight” setup with integrated air channels, and an aerodynamic profile enabled by advanced airflow optimisation.

Xiaomi reports that the YU7 Standard variant delivers a range of 835km using a 96.3kWh battery, making it the longest-range pure electric SUV in its category under a 100kWh battery.

The Pro and Max variants feature four-wheel-drive systems and offer ranges of 760km and 770km, respectively.

The SUV introduces Xiaomi’s HyperVision Panoramic Display, a Mini LED triple-screen setup that projects key information onto the lower windshield area using panoramic curved projection technology.

The vehicle also includes a new flush door handle system that deploys automatically when a key is detected nearby.

Aerodynamic enhancements include ten through-flow air channels, 19 ventilation points, and an active grille with 100 adjustable louvers.

Xiaomi claims these contribute to a significant range increase, 59km more compared to earlier prototypes.

Available in three paint finishes — Emerald Green, Titanium Silver, and Lava Orange — the Xiaomi YU7 blends high-end design, smart technology, and electric performance as the brand looks to establish itself in the premium EV segment.

The SUV features a high-spec chassis: double wishbone front, five-link rear suspension, dual-chamber air springs with 75mm adjustability, Brembo brakes, and continuous damper control for enhanced comfort and handling across varied terrain.

It boasts a top-tier performance setup led by the HyperEngine V6s Plus, and 0–100 km/h acceleration in 3.23 seconds.

The dual-motor system supports a top speed of 253km/h, outperforming many higher-priced rivals.

The HyperEngine V6s Plus uses segmented magnetic steel to reduce energy loss, boosting efficiency and extending range by 4km.

Braking is equally advanced, with a 33.9m stopping distance and a four-layer safety system.

Pricing and delivery timelines are expected to be announced shortly.
