CLEVELAND — Guardians pitcher Ben Lively exited Monday night’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers after three innings due to right forearm inflammation.
The right-hander came out for the fourth inning and threw a couple warmup pitches before feeling discomfort. He left the mound after talking to trainers and manager Stephen Vogt.
Vogt said after the Guardians’ 5-0 victory that Lively would have more tests on Tuesday.
“He dealt with it a little bit last year and then his last start in Washington (on May 6) was dealing with it. That’s why we got him out of there early. We just wanted to be safe and get him out of there,” Vogt said.
Jakob Junis, Kolby Allard, Cade Smith and Hunter Gaddis went the rest of the way for the Guardians’ fifth shutout of the season. Lively allowed no runs and one hit with two walks and a strikeouts.
Lively is 2-2 with a 3.22 ERA in 10 starts this season. He has allowed only one run in 14 innings in three May starts.
