Czech President Petr Pavel promised to deliver a large number of rounds of ammunition to Ukraine as President Volodymyr Zelensky visited Prague on Sunday.
Zelensky expressed his gratitude for the Czech Republic’s ammunition initiative, praising the country’s “unwavering and fundamental support” after a meeting with Pavel.
As part of the initiative, the Czech Republic is supplying artillery ammunition from third countries.
“We will continue these deliveries for as long as necessary, ie. until a just peace has been achieved for Ukraine,” Pavel said.
He said that 1.8 million rounds of large-calibre ammunition could be made available by the end of the year. The initiative is currently being financially supported by 11 countries. Negotiations on quotas for next year are also already under way.
The Czech Defence Ministry says that deliveries from the beginning of the year through the end of April already amounted to 400,000 rounds.
Zelensky arrived in Prague on Sunday with his wife Olena for an unannounced two-day visit. Strict security measures were in place.
