Rory McIlroy’s putting coach and mentor, Brad Faxon, has tipped the 2025 Masters champion to go on and double his list of major titles after he put an end to his Augusta demons on Sunday.
McIlroy had waited over a decade for his next major win after previously lifting the 2014 Open Championship, and he had waited even longer to taste victory at Augusta National where he first contended in 2011.
However, after a rollercoaster final round that ended with a playoff with Justin Rose, the Northern Irishman became just the sixth men’s player in history to complete a career Grand Slam.
Faxon said he believes there is nothing stopping him from winning many more.
“He has played professional golf for more than half his life now and there is nothing that can stop this guy,” Faxon said.
“Rory can double his number of majors. He can go on to win 10. Something happened from the defeats to build the resilience he has. It builds inside what you need to overcome. He is an example to everyone.”
“Rory has carried a burden since 2014 to have this goal accomplished and every year, since the first major of the year, it gets harder,” Faxon added.
“Rory is one of the most intelligent, kind people I have ever met in my life and he knows everything about the history of the game and what this means for the game.”
McIlroy is tied-15th for the most men’s major championships won. Jack Nicklaus leads the list with 18 major wins, three ahead of Tiger Woods.
