The Washington Capitals signed defenseman Dylan McIlrath to a two-year, $1.6 million extension Thursday.

McIlrath, 32, has recorded two assists and 14 penalty minutes in 11 games this season.

He captained Washington’s American Hockey League affiliate Hershey to Calder Cup championships in 2023 and 2024.

McIlrath has three goals and six assists in 86 games over parts of nine NHL seasons with the New York Rangers, Florida Panthers, Detroit Red Wings and Capitals.
