Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins Forward Vasily Ponomarev Suspended One Game

The AHL has announced that Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins forward Vasily Ponomarev has been suspended one game after he received a match penalty in a game against the Hershey Bears.

The incident occurred in the third period of a Feb. 15 game against the Hershey Bears in which Wilkes-Barre/Scranton lost 403.

Ponomarev punched Bears forward Pierrick Dube in a scrum with his glove on and was assessed a 15 minute match penalty.

The Moscow, RUS., native will miss today (Feb. 16) game against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

The 22-year-old has 29 points in 34 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and no points in four games with Pittsburgh this season. He won the 2022 Calder Cup with the Chicago Wolves.

A second round pick of the Carolina Hurricanes in 2020, Ponomarev was acquired by Pittsburgh last season in the trade that sent Jake Guentzel to Carolina.
