The Chicago Blackhawks selected Ryan Hartman in the first round of the 2013 NHL Draft. He played with them for parts of four seasons before being traded away.
He has since turned into a great NHL player but he plays on the edge. That was on full display in his most recent game as a member of the Minnesota Wild against the Ottawa Senators.
On a faceoff play, Hartman drove Senators forward Tim Stutzle into the ice face first with force. This is roughing.
For his actions in the play, he was offered an in-person hearing for supplemental discipline. That meant that he was eligible for a suspension longer than five games.
He got just that as the NHL’s Department of Player Safety suspended him for 10 games. That’s a hefty penalty for this incident.
It is the fifth time that Hartman has been suspended in his NHL career and fourth since 2023. Hartman has also been fined seven times. His repeat offender status is why he’s getting such a large suspension.
Tim Stutzle was not severely hurt on the play which is good news for him, the Ottawa Senators, and the league. He made it into the lineup for Monday night’s win over the Nashville Predators.
Hartman will be eligible for a return on March 9th when the Wild take on the Pittsburgh Penguins.
