Russia has attacked Ukraine with 28,743 Shahed combat drones, a brand developed by Iran, since the beginning of the war, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
In June alone, there were 2,736 such attacks, he said in a speech to the Dutch parliament on Tuesday, which he later published on social media.
The Russian military has been using the drones in its more than three-year-long war of aggression, primarily in night-time attacks that repeatedly strike residential areas, he said.
Without the “Iranian regime,” Russia would not have been able to do this, Zelensky said. “Moscow never truly respects an alliance and always betrays its so-called ‘partners,’ but still builds relationships with bloody regimes. With such ‘friends,’ Russia merely enhances its ability to kill.”
Zelensky stressed to the Dutch and other Western allies that Ukraine, on the other hand, would not have been able to shoot down the majority of these drones without the support of its partners. A two-day NATO summit is currently taking place in The Hague, with Russia’s war against Ukraine one of the key topics.
