Passengers on a flight in Pakistan over the weekend were left holding onto their seats when the plane hit severe weather.
The Fly Jinnah aircraft was headed from Karachi to Lahore in Pakistan Saturday and was nearly on the runway at Allama Iqbal International Airport when it encountered a fierce storm.
“The landing seemed routine at first. But as soon as the wheels touched the ground, a powerful sandstorm engulfed the plane,” said one passenger, via the Times of India.
“Within seconds, we were airborne again. The next 10 to 12 minutes were some of the scariest of my life. The plane was being thrown around violently, visibility was zero, and it felt like we were caught inside a cyclone.”
Footage of the incident from inside the cabin has been circulating on social media, showing terrified passengers riding out the turbulence.
“Visuals of a panicked cabin owing to extreme turbulence faced by Pakistani carrier FlyJinnah Airbus A320-214 aircraft (AP-BOV) while operating flight from Karachi (KHI) to Lahore (LHE) on Saturday,” says the caption for the Instagram post.
“Flight 9P842 / FJL842 encountered intense turbulence mid-air as it was caught in a severe storm while attempting to land at Allama Iqbal International Airport, was forced for a go-around. Cockpit, following instructions from air traffic control, flew the aircraft back to Karachi on 24 May.”
According to Gulf News, this was the second incident of this type in the last eight days. On Sunday, May 18, a FlyJinnah plane hit a sandstorm while approaching Quetta, enduring four failed landing attempts before finally getting grounded with low fuel levels.
Additionally, bad weather across Lahore and Islamabad over the weekend resulted in dozens of flights being delayed or cancelled.
