The early play-to-earn (P2E) boom in Web3 gaming is fading, giving way to a demand for platforms that offer deeper utility, educational value, and sustainable ecosystems.
U.K.-based Futurum Gaming is aiming to fill that gap. The firm is building a new kind of blockchain game—where players not only earn but learn—by combining artificial intelligence (AI), tokenization, and real-world educational tools.
CCN spoke with Martin Hugo, Futurum’s project lead, to explore what the startup plans to bring to the Web3 gaming space.
What Is Futurum?
Futurum Gaming is a U.K.-based firm that combines blockchain and AI to educate people. As Hugo explains, Futurum Gaming is built on three core principles: value-driven gaming, real-world utility, and sustainable ecosystems.
Using AI, its upcoming Paddle AI Tutor will tailor gameplay to individual learners in real time, delivering adaptive education through interactive challenges.
Student progress will be recorded on-chain and rewarded with in-platform tokens, which can be spent, traded, or staked for the native FTRM token.
“In terms of rewards, players can earn in-platform tokens (pegged to fiat for pricing stability) for achievements and participation,” Hugo said. “Those tokens can be spent on items, upgrades, or traded for FTRM to be staked or sold.”
Token holders can also access governance features, unlock exclusive game modes, and receive additional perks.
At present, Futurum has two titles under its belt, Race to Infinity, an award-winning math game targeting Web2 users, and Quest to Infinity, a slightly more advanced Web3-native title.
“We acquired exclusive digital and Web3 rights to Race to Infinity because it perfectly embodies our mission: educational content with measurable outcomes,” Hugo said. “The game is already used in classrooms and has proven results, including a 59% average improvement in math literacy.”
By gamifying that success and bringing it to a blockchain audience, Futurum believes it can significantly scale its reach.
Building Long-Term Utility in Web3
Futurum sees an opportunity to bridge two booming sectors—edtech and blockchain gaming—by focusing on real-world utility.
“The space is missing true utility,” Hugo said. “Too many projects focus on token pumps or unsustainable P2E loops without delivering meaningful content or long-term engagement. Web3 needs more quality games that are fun first, and blockchain-enhanced second.”
While speculative P2E titles once dominated, many have failed to maintain user interest or deliver lasting value. Hugo believes the model isn’t obsolete, just misused.
“At Futurum, we’re focused on a learn-and-earn model where players are incentivized not just to play, but to grow. Over the long-term, our goal is to be the leading hub for educational gaming in Web3, where entertainment, learning, and earning can co-exist sustainably.”
He added that the Web3 education space still lacks robust infrastructure to meaningfully reward skill-building and progress.
Hugo highlighted that FTRM, Futurum’s native token, is used for governance, staking, and ecosystem growth. That dual-token setup ensures long-term value creation for players and holders.
Beyond its AI-driven edtech game, Futurum is also partnering with educational institutions to bring verified content and measurable outcomes into its games. The company plans to onboard 50,000 players and launch on multiple chains by the end of 2025.
“2025 is our foundation year,” Hugo said. “By 2026, Futurum will be a recognized leader in educational gaming—setting the standard for where learning and blockchain meet.”
