Sabres To Honor Ray In Pre-Game Ceremony

Sabres To Honor Ray In Pre-Game Ceremony

The Buffalo Sabres are hoping to build on a 7-2 victory over the Boston Bruins in the second game of a four-game homestand against the Nashville Predators on Friday night, but prior to the game, the focus will be on honoring former Sabres enforcer and current broadcaster Rob Ray will be inducted in the club’s Hall of Fame.

Ray, who played all but 11 of his 900 career games with the Blue and Gold between 1989 to 2003, will be the 44th member to enter the Sabres Hall of Fame and will have a number of former teammates take part in the ceremony.

“I just think of Rob was the ultimate Buffalo Sabre. He’s been involved in this organization for a long time and I think he kind of epitomizes blue-collar hockey,” Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff said after practice on Thursday. “In the day when there were a lot of tough guys on every team, you had a guy that created a lot of comfort for your team. He was a great teammate and I think post-career, he’s been probably an even better representation of what it’s like to be a Buffalo Sabre, being involved, and a do-all guy to help the team out from his broadcasting.”
